A Brief History of Spanish
Spanish is the world's second most spoken language after Mandarin Chinese and the world's fourth most spoken language after English, Mandarin Chinese and Hindi. It is spoken by almost 500 million people, originating in the Iberian peninsula of Europe.
It is one of the six official languages of the United Nations and is officialy used by the European Union. Spanish is also one of the most taught foreign languages, but doesn't feature prominently in scientific and technical articles.
