What is Homeschooling?

Homeschooling or as it is also commonly known as home education is the education option of children at home or in various locations and places other than school premises. Home education is often held by parents or tutors, both in-person and online.

There are a number of families who have accustomed to less formal ways of teaching, the term “Homeschooling” is commonly known and used in North America, where “Home Education” is often found being used in Europe, the United Kingdom, and other commonwealth countries.

A parent’s education level does not have an effect on homeschooling success. Anyone can homeschool, especially with institutes like TeachKuwait.

01.Education Boards

TeachKuwait offers home schooling for two different academic boards – the American IB system and the British Curriculum. Student support is offered from primary level to university entry for both tracks and includes preparation classes for various university-related entry tests, such as SATs, ACTs, TOEFL and IELTS.

02.Admission Preparation

We also provide support in the admission process with personal statements and other application requirements. Our tutors and teachers in Kuwait are available and equipped for the development and readiness of your child, to face their future and to usher him/her into success, all while growing their potential skills.

Our teaching methods are very different to those of a traditional school. We provide a fun, safe environment that is conducive to learning. Our students enjoy what they learn and are free to select their own subjects based on their individual areas of interest.

Controlled Classroom Sizes

TeachKuwait limits classrooms sizes in order to provide students with individualized, focused learning. Teachers are able to effectively monitor and control student progress, address issues and eliminate barriers to learning.

Personalised Education

Every child learns at their own pace. It is fundamentally unfair to subject students to a one-size-fits-all system, especially when it comes to learning.

We also do not enforce a set pace of learning. Students are free to choose their own learning goals and objectives, and these are monitored by both their teachers and counsellors to ensure that progress is maintained in-line with projected goals.

Homeschooled students have a higher graduation rate from universities than school students. They also consistently graduate with a higher GPA than their peers.

School / Life Balance

School-life balance is vital for optimal academic functioning. Students often prioritise academics at the expense of personal factors, including relationships and self-care, leading to a decline in academic performance along with general health and well-being.

We start our classes at 10 am daily and end them at 4 pm to allow a better school-life balance, offering our students more personal and family time.

We also provide stress management sessions at timed intervals to ensure that our learners are not being overburdened.

Home-schooled environment is better than school. 85% of schools have reported criminal activities on school premises. Furthermore, 91% of homeschooling parents report that school environment plays a factor in their decision to home-school.

Character & Life Skills Development

At TeachKuwait, we place a strong emphasis on character and personality development. These two elements lie at the very heart of our entire homeschooling programme. Every student is allocated a counsellor who helps guide them through their daily activities and build on their personalities.

We combine this with a personalized career management course that runs parallel to the academic subjects, helping students to decide on the career pathway they wish to pursue, and devising a plan towards its actualisation.

We also offer a detailed life skills course that encourages personal growth and development, and teaches the basics of time management, planning and development tools, effective learning methods and a variety of other competencies.

In addition, we provide a book club, fitness programmes and a wide range of boardgames, as well as scheduled field trips and outings.

Home-schooled youth have better self-esteem on average due to a safe and respectful environment. More than 60% of home schooled youngsters tested above the 90th percentile on a self-concept scale, an indication of positive self esteem

We teach students to value learning by helping them discover their long term goals in life which leads them towards developing a strong work ethic.

Our high school students are taught how to write assignments and essays, conduct research and use referencing systems – academic tuition is not limited to the standardised tests and exams that are the focus of traditional schooling systems.

We also institute Guided Academic Hours per week for all students for after-school independent learning and reflection. The topics are assigned based on individual student interests, and presentation style is left to the discretion of the learner.

Often, depending on the students preference, these tend to be more related to life skills than academic content.

Parental Support

At TeachKuwait, we are firm believers in the old adage that it takes a village to raise a child. Unlike a traditional schooling systems with strict protocols and minimal parental interference, we encourage parents to fully engage in their child’s schooling in order to be able to provide a healthy support environment at home. Parents are welcome to visit at any time and speak to the faculty and counsellors regarding their child’s progress, voice any concerns and work together with the assigned team to enrich the overall learning experience.

We ensure that every individual receives just as much, or even more acquired knowledge than that which a traditional school can provide in a more intentional and focused manner. Parents who are conservative with what and how their children learn, will find that it is a challenging task to search for the right school for their child to grow and develop their knowledge and skills.

We believe that every individual is unique in their own way, and we prefer not to tire out students with unnecessary and irrelevant subjects. Rather, we aim at a more focused, engaging, and fun way of teaching students how to live out the best in life with practical lessons and personal development.
